PERCEPTIONS AND MISCONCEPTIONS ON HEART AND HEART AND RELATED DISEASES

1. Heart disease is inherited:
Partially true. This is only one of the factors predisposing you to heart disease and is not the sole factor
2. Weight conscious people never get a heart attack:
Persons with normal weight have a lesser chance of getting heart diseases in comparison to obese people. But it is misleading to conclude that persons who are thin or of normal weight are not exposed to cardiac problems.
3. Only vigorous exercise expand calories and reduce weight
Any slow physical movement also consumes calories and can reduce a weight if done for sufficiently long time
4. A zero fat diet is excellent
Not correct, some amount of fat is necessary for carrying out vital functions of the body
5. Occasional recreations and holidays from office are good for busy executives
Yes. It does relieve them from constant anxiety and tension related with their job. But by no means, can such a holiday or recreation negate totally the risk of heart disease

6. A heart patient should abstain from sex
Partially true. Sex act temporarily involves putting greater strain on the heart by increasing the heart rate to 130-150 times a minute instead the normal 72 times a minute. If you have undergone a heart surgery, one should not resume sexual relation before 4-6 weeks.

heart...

The heart is an amazing muscle that beats around 100000 times a day.It is essentially a complex pump that is able to adjust blood pressure, flow and volume in order to provide your body with all the blood itneeds. The World Health Organization (W.H.O) estimates that 60 percent of the world’s cardiac patients will be Indian by 2010.In India, heart disease is the single largest cause of death in the country with heart attacks being responsible for one third of all deaths caused by heart diseases. With modernization, a large proportion of Indians are trading healthy traditional diets for fatty foods, physical jobs for deskbound sloth, the relative calm of the country side for the stressful city. Some changes in the heart and blood vessels normally occur with age,but many others are modifiable factors that, if not addressed, can lead to heart disease. So, maintaining the heart in good condition is most essential for you to live a longer life.
